Avoid Siding Contractors Who Show These Common Red Flags

Remodeling projects, particularly ones that involve your exteriors like replacing windows, siding or entry doors, can be greatly rewarding. When you have a trustworthy contractor to help you every step of the way, the whole process can go smoothly. There might be one or two snags along the way as is true for any construction project, but exterior remodels should be mostly stress-free. Unfortunately, when your contractors aren’t as skilled or experienced as they say they are, problems can pop up fairly frequently.

Avoid Siding Contractors Who Show These Common Red Flags

For siding installation and replacement projects, it can be difficult to judge a contractor until after the job is completed. Thankfully, unscrupulous contractors often display a few red flags that could warn you even before you sign any contracts.

No History

There will always be new siding companies that will enter the industry every year so this red flag must be considered carefully. However, if a contractor says they are “new to the area,” has no physical address and no previous clients and job portfolio, it should sound a few alarms in your head. To avoid falling victim to this kind of service, it’s best to stick with established contractors with years of experience under their belt.

Payment Upfront

No decent contractor will ask you for 100% payment upfront. Even asking for half of the total contract right away can be a little suspicious. If your siding installer is making strange payment arrangements in regards to your project, it may be better to stay away right from the start.

Just Doesn’t Feel Right

Replacing your siding, roof, windows or doors can be a huge investment on your part, and, sometimes, your gut feeling may be warning you about a contractor. If this is the case, it may be worth trusting your instincts and looking more closely at the company’s credentials to avoid getting scammed.
